Introducing father and son musicians DENNIS and DEREK UHLIK, who will be showcasing their talent and entertaining the audience at the Button Accordion Championship Event on Sat. Aug. 4, 2018 in Newmarket Ontario.
Dennis Uhlik was born in Chatham Ontario, and now lives in Woodstock Ontario. He started playing the accordion when he was just 7 years old for about 5 years until he entered highschool. He then picked up the accordion again in earnest about 10 years ago and hasn’t stopped playing since. Through his involvement in playing with a number of bands over the years, Dennis inspired his son Derek to also turn to music.
Derek Uhlik studied at the conservatory of music for piano for a number of years starting at a young age. Derek has played piano/keyboard for 25 years and also took up the piano accordion 5 years ago. In his early 20’s Derek played in a classic rock band called Rusty Nutz. Derek has also played with a number of other bands including the Polka Playmates, the Blue Waves, the Walter Ostanek Band, the Charlie Vasik Barn Party, Millie & the Czech Us Out Polka Band, and now proudly leads the Niagara Button Boxers band. Derek’s love for music is evident in his animated and energized stage performances. Derek was born in Chatham Ontario and grew up in Woodstock Ontario. He has lived in Brantford for a number of years and currently calls Niagara Falls Ontario his home. Derek’s family is of Czech, English, and French heritage.
